Yakov, born 1979 in Teslić, Bosnia and Herzegovina, stands at the Zvečan Fortress near Mitrovica, Kosovo. He had been a solider in the Republika Srpska army in Bosnia for five years (after the fighting had ended) and began reading Christian books during that time and felt the pull to become a monk. He wanted to be in Kosovo where, he said, his people are suffering; he would not want to be in some cushy location where there is no risk. (August 30, 2013)
